May 2011 Campout Logistics

 -          Scuba diving on this trip is limited to those who have earned their Open Water Scuba Certification.

o        Divers must bring their certifications in order to dive during this event.  Divers are encouraged to bring their log books as well.

-           While it is understood that several of the divers have limited diving experience outside of their certification class, it is expected that they will be largely self sufficient for this event.  Divers who have not dived recently should review their certification course materials to freshen up their skills.

o        There will be ample time and adult supervision to make this an excellent safe and stress free opportunity to practice and improve scuba skills.

o        I am working to provide a few in-water scuba activities to add some interest beyond blowing bubbles and underwater exploring.  (No promises and suggestions welcome.)

-          Each diver is expected to provide their own Mask, Fins and Snorkel as well as a wet suit if desired.

o        Alexander springs is 72OF year round (same as the Rainbow River ) so an exposure suit is recommended but is not absolutely necessary and can be omitted for the hardy.

-          Each scout will be provided a single air tank.  Due to the calm, shallow conditions expected at Alexander Springs , this should be sufficient for one long or possibly two short dives depending on the diver.

o        Two tanks will be available for each adult to provide sufficient in-water support for the scouts.

-          For those scouts needing BC’s, Regulators and Weights, arrangements will be made to rent several complete sets of appropriately sized gear that will be shared amongst those renting.  The plan is to rent enough gear so that approximately half of the scouts can dive at any one time.  This will reduce the per scout cost and improve safety by limiting the number of scouts in the water at any given time.

o        The rental cost is $29 per set through Adventure Diving and will be shared by those renting. (estimated at less than $20 per renter)

-          The tanks and gear sets will be picked up by me on Friday afternoon and will be dropped off late in the day on Sunday.

The following is a listing of the divers and equipment needs as of 5/10
